MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
NYS certification as a School Social Worker.Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university.Knowledge of child and adolescent development and the social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs of school-age students.Knowledge of individual and group counseling techniques, crisis intervention, and prevention strategies.Knowledge of community resources and the ability to coordinate services for students and families.Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and collaborative consultation skills.Ability to work effectively with students, families, school personnel, and community agencies.MAJOR DUTIES
Engages and collaborates with colleagues, families, and the community to develop and sustain a supportive school environment that promotes student learning, social-emotional development, and well-being.Provides individual and group counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, family, attendance, or other concerns that may interfere with educational progress.Assesses students' social-emotional needs and helps develop appropriate prevention, intervention, and support plans.Provides crisis intervention and support to students experiencing emotional distress, trauma, family crises, behavioral concerns, or other significant challenges.Assists students in developing appropriate coping, problem-solving, decision-making, self-regulation, communication, and interpersonal skills.Consults and collaborates with teachers, administrators, school counselors, psychologists, nurses, special education staff, parents/guardians, and other school personnel regarding student needs and appropriate interventions.Works collaboratively with students and families to identify social, emotional, behavioral, family, or environmental factors that may interfere with school attendance, academic performance, or educational success.Serves as a liaison between the school, families, community agencies, mental health providers, social service agencies, and other organizations involved in supporting students and families.Provides information and referrals to appropriate school and community resources and helps students and families access services when needed.Participates, as appropriate, in Committee on Special Education (CSE), Section 504, student support, attendance, behavioral, and other multidisciplinary team meetings.Provides school social work services identified in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), assists the CSE in developing appropriate student programs and services, and maintains required documentation.Conducts social-developmental histories, student and family interviews, observations, assessments, and other activities necessary to identify student needs and assist educational planning.Assists in the development and implementation of behavioral, social-emotional, attendance, and crisis intervention plans.Provides consultation and intervention when students demonstrate significant concerns related to behavior, attendance, academic performance, peer relationships, family circumstances, or emotional functioning.Supports prevention and intervention efforts related to bullying, harassment, mental health substance use, school avoidance, conflict resolution, social skills, and other identified student needs.Maintains accurate and confidential case files, counseling records, progress notes reports, referrals, and other documentation in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, and District procedures.Monitors student progress and evaluates the effectiveness of interventions and services, modifying supports as appropriate in collaboration with the student's educational team.Communicates with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns and participates in parent/teacher conferences and other meetings as appropriate.Understands and complies with relevant federal and New York State laws, regulations, District policies, confidentiality…
