The actual salary will be determined by factors such as scope, complexity, location, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, and other conditions of employment. What Is the Opportunity?Travelers is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. You will complete advanced end‑to‑end engineering tasks for specific system assignments, including designing, developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementing based on user or system specifications. You will consult users to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications, manage interaction between systems and other technical support areas, define technical requirements, and coordinate team resources to solve problems.
Responsibilities- Perform analysis, design, development, and configuration functions (including defining technical requirements) with a high degree of accuracy and speed, operating as an individual contributor to team goals.
- Perform analysis, assessment and resolution for defects and incidents of advanced complexity and elevate appropriately.
- Work independently to tackle well‑scoped and loosely scoped problems.
- Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced employees.

- Four years of programming/development experience.
- Demonstrated experience with cloud computing (AWS Serverless/EKS and/or Azure).
- Proficiency with API development (REST and/or GraphQL).
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (Terraform, AWS CDK).
- Working knowledge of frameworks/libraries (React.js and/or Node.js).
- Proven proficiency with scripting languages (JavaScript, Type Script, Python).
- Understanding and experience with eventing systems (Kafka).
- Experience with relational databases (DB2, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Familiarity with document databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB).
- Demonstrated experience with AI enablement: programmatic LLM interactions (Open AI, Anthropic, MCP), agentic design, prompt generation and refinement.
- Coding assistant usage (Claude, Git Hub Co‑Pilot).
- Experience with automated testing and unit testing (NUnit, XUnit, Moq, Jest, Cypress).
- Proficiency with source control (Git, Git Hub).
- Proven CI/CD experience (Cloud Bees Jenkins, Jenkins Open Source, Azure Dev Ops).
- Understanding of OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.
- Experience with observability/monitoring platforms (Dynatrace, ELK stack, Open Telemetry).
- Familiarity and experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools (Jira, Rally).
- Intermediate delivery skills: estimate accurate timelines, deliver steady pace, contribute to software design strategy, avoid over‑engineering, ensure automation, release in small batches, negotiate trade‑offs.
- Domain expertise: track record of domain expertise with technical concepts, industry trends, cooperation, business priorities, knowledge of adjacent systems.
- Problem solving: strong problem solver, long‑term solutions, learning from mistakes, breaking large problems into manageable parts.
- Communication: articulate information clearly, document work, collaborate well, mentor/mentee, ask clarifying questions, give and receive feedback, active listening.
