Sr Software Engineer

Position Overview

Travelers is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. You will complete advanced software end‑to‑end engineering tasks that span many parts of a system, including designing, developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring and alerting, and implementing based on user or system specifications.

• Perform complex analysis, advanced level design, configuration and develop functions for impactful and high‑visibility tasks.
• Take the lead on directing and implementing solutions to moderately complex, loosely scoped problems that are aligned with team goals.
• Deliver efforts both independently and by leading other team members.
• Lead investigation and resolution efforts for critical, high‑impact problems, defects, and incidents.
• Act as a technology advocate, independently seeking opportunities where technology can be utilized to improve the business.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship while fostering a team environment.
• Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within the context of assigned efforts.
• Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Five years of programming/development experience.
• Proven experience in leading and managing software engineering teams, fostering collaboration and achieving project goals.
• Proficient in cloud computing (AWS Serverless/EKS or Azure).
• Proficiency with API development (REST or GraphQL).
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK.
• Experience with frameworks/libraries such as React.js or Node.js.
• Proficient with scripting languages like JavaScript, Type Script, or Python.
• Experience with eventing systems such as Kafka.
• Experience with relational databases (DB2, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and document databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB).
• Experience with automated testing and unit testing (NUnit/XUnit, Moq, Jest, Cypress).
• Proficiency with source control (Git/Git Hub) and CI/CD (Cloud Bees Jenkins, Jenkins Open Source, Azure Dev Ops).
• Understanding of OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC).
• Experience with observability/monitoring platforms (Dynatrace, ELK stack, Open Telemetry).
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools (Jira, Rally).
• Strong problem‑solving, communication, and leadership skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or equivalent work experience.
• 6 additional years of software engineering experience.

Annual base salary range: $139,400 – $230,000. Performance‑based cash incentive awards are also part of the compensation package.
