Associate Payroll Manager is an individual contributor role responsible for overseeing the processing of hourly and salaried payrolls, assuring that payrolls are timely, accurate and in compliance with the company’s policies and Federal, State and Local regulatory requirements. Perform payroll accounting activities to ensure ledger postings are complete and accurate; monitor payroll taxes, liens, garnishments, 401(k) and other reconciliations.
What you’ll be doing :- Oversee employee payroll accounting, transactions and reporting activities.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate payment of Thermo Safe’s payrolls, including multi‑company, multi‑state and multiple pay cycles.
- Maintain controls and audits to ensure that the payrolls are calculated properly and that Thermo Safe is in compliance with wage and hour laws.
- Audit HR entries into Workday to ensure compliance with SOX, identify control weaknesses and initiate corrective action for system edits and error messages.
- Have in‑depth knowledge of pay practices and federal, state and local wage‑and‑hour law and tax regulations.
- Review and recommend improvements to existing payroll procedures; research federal and state rules and regulations.
- Make decisions to resolve pay issues that arise with the operations, balancing employee needs with Thermo Safe’s costs while ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Make recommendations for process and system improvements; participate in system testing for software/hardware upgrades, implementations, acquisitions and integrations.
- Coordinate with HR and finance teams to carry out payroll processing.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position is based in our Arlington Heights, IL Headquarters, Hybrid and or Remote option may be considered.
We’d love to hear from you if:- Four‑year degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8‑12 years of experience in payroll processing.
- Good technical aptitude and ability to grasp a general knowledge of multiple disciplines and technologies.
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
- Prefer ADP experience and knowledge of standing up/implementing similar payroll platforms.
