Medical Laboratory Technician - Arlington Heights, IL (Rotational Weekends) Part-time/ Full-time

Department:
Microbiology

Pay Range: $21.35 - $35.24 / hour

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Perform PCR lab tests under the direction of senior laboratory personnel in those specialties in which they are qualified by education, training and experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs and quality requirements under the supervision of senior personnel.
  • Perform moderate-complexity testing as permitted, following completion of required on-site training and oversight.
  • Comply with all laboratory policies and procedures related to specimen handling, processing, testing, result reporting, and record maintenance.
  • Maintain analytical schedules to ensure timely turnaround of test results, including STAT and critical results.
  • Verify and document reagent/test kit information, including receipt dates, expiration dates, and opened dates as applicable.
  • Perform and document quality control (QC) analyses to confirm instrument functionality and data accuracy.
  • Evaluate QC results and make appropriate decisions regarding test or assay validity.
  • Notify supervisory personnel promptly of any issues affecting test performance or compliance.
  • Report and cooperate in the investigation of any deviations from established testing procedures.
  • Review and enter test results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for standardized reporting to physicians.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete all required training and competency assessments.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and internal laboratory safety standards.
  • Properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE), engineering controls, and safe work practices.
  • Provide assistance and respond to inquiries from clients or laboratory personnel, as needed.
  • Participate in audits or inspections by government or regulatory agencies when required.

    Work Experience:

    Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 published in March 14, 1990.

    Preferred

    Work Experience:

    One (1) to three (3) years of clinical experience preferred.

    Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods of time.
  • Frequent walking and/or standing.
  • May be required to use a wide variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments and apparatuses all of which demand significant manual dexterity.
  • Knowledge:
  • Basic theoretical and operational job knowledge in clinical testing.
  • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Skills:

    Must be detail-oriented with the ability to work independently
    , set priorities, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously to ensure departmental efficiency.

    Possess strong interpersonal skills to interact courteously and effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and clients.

    Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
    , including the ability to handle client telephone inquiries professionally.

    Maintain strict confidentiality when handling client and patient information.

    Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).

    Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree BS in Medical Technology or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology (Preferred)
  • Associates Degree Laboratory Science or Medical Technology. Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF. United States educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript. (Required)
