Catering Cook Assistant (Part-Time/Flexible)

Township High School District 214 is looking for an experienced, flexible, and dedicated Part‑Time Catering Cook Assistant to support our School Nutrition Services management team.

In this dynamic role, you will primarily assist with the preparation, service, and execution of food for various high‑profile district events, banquets, and special functions. This is a crucial support position that helps execute the vision for dining experiences beyond the daily cafeteria service.

• Schedule:
  
  Part‑time with flexible hours that will frequently include evenings and weekends based on the event schedule.
• Pay:
  Starting at $21.08 per hour (commensurate with experience).
• Travel Reimbursement:
  Mileage for travel between district locations for business purposes will be reimbursed at the current IRS standard mileage rate.
• Locations:
  Work will be performed at, or for events hosted by, the following locations. Reliable transportation is required to move between sites and complete catering duties:
  • Buffalo Grove High School
  • Elk Grove High School
  • John Hersey High School
  • Prospect High School
  • Rolling Meadows High School
  • Wheeling High School
  • Forest View Educational Center

• Event Support:
  Assist with the physical set‑up, preparation, service, and cleaning up for special events, banquets, and catering functions.
• Elevated Cooking Support:
  Support the manager and chef in preparing a diverse menu of food items, focusing on advanced culinary techniques, presentation, and quality consistent with an elevated cook or chef background.
• Logistics:
  Assist with inventory counting, staging, transporting, and breakdown of equipment required for on‑site and off‑site events.
• Food Preparation:
  Help prepare daily meals using large‑scale cooking methods and approved recipes when not dedicated to catering events.
• Quality Control:
  Strictly follow all safe and clean food handling rules and ensure all food service areas meet high standards of safety and sanitation.

• Experience supporting catering, event service, and high‑volume banquet cooking.
• Demonstrated experience as an elevated cook or chef's assistant is highly desirable.
• Strong practical skills in food production and presentation.
• Must possess a Food Service Sanitation Certification or be able to take the course and get certified within one school year.
• Must have reliable transportation available for evening/weekend work and travel between district locations.

• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods (at least 3 hours without stopping).
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop (bend down), and reach.
• Ability to work in various conditions (hot, cold, or wet) and adjust to different situations.
