Job DescriptionPOSITION: Day Care Program Manager
JOB GOAL: To manage a safe and welcoming day care program at multiple sites in the Arlington Public Schools for the benefit of APS teachers and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: This person should demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with children, families, staff, and community members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least 5 years experience working in a daycare or childcare setting.
- Leadership/Management experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND
SKILLS:
- Demonstrated ability to manage and hire staff, maintain program budgets, and develop programming for staff and families.
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to regulations surrounding child care facilities and to establish and implement effective policies for child safety.
- Knowledge of child growth and development and methods for maintaining a positive, loving environment in a daycare setting.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations for operating child care facilities and staffing.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform all functions necessary to run a multi-site day care program, including staffing coverage, supplies purchasing, scheduling, and financial management.
- Hire, train and supervise day care staff.
- Make day‑to‑day operational decisions about the program, and escape challenges when necessary to appropriate district administrators.
- Proactively communicate with families about program policies, daily activities, and events.
- Enroll children in the program, communicate with families regarding billing, payment and procedures, and identify opportunities for enrollment expansion when possible.
- Maintain accurate records of children in the program, and maintain a wait list as needed.
- Communicate with prospective day care clients about openings in the program, and when children are approaching the time they would age out of the program.
- Keep time records for all staff hours and communicate with payroll.
- Communicate regularly with the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations on matters impacting the operation and finances of the Day Care Program.
- Submit financial reports to the Business Office monthly.
- Lead meeting of lead day care staff and full day care staff.
- Respond to parent and staff concerns.
- Maintain and communicate relevant emergency procedures, aligned with District and Schools.
- Purchase supplies needed, both durable equipment and disposable supplies.
- Manage schedules and staffing coverage, including calling substitutes when needed. Provide coverage at locations when substitute coverage is not available.
- Schedule CPR and other necessary training for staff members.
- Communicate regularly with building principals whose schools host the day care program.

WORKSCHEDULE
