School Social Worker (Dallin and Peirce Elementary Schools)

Position:
Peirce / Dallin Elementary School Social Worker

This position will focus on supporting the social, emotional, and mental health and well-being of all students, including special education, with an emphasis on implementing and advocating for culturally responsive and culturally and linguistically sustaining practices that recognize and honor students' diverse identities, experiences, and communication styles.

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or other licensed Mental Health field
  • LICSW, LCSW, LMHC in Massachusetts
  • School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor License
  • Experience working with elementary school students, supporting social emotional and behavioral health
  • Experience working in a therapeutic and/or school setting
  • Experience with culturally responsive pedagogy and practices
Responsibilities
  • Individual and group therapy with special education and general education students
  • Consultation with staff, including coaching and professional development on social/emotional interventions and trauma-informed practices that are culturally and linguistically affirming and relevant
  • Act as a liaison with the METCO program for the social work team; this includes meeting with the METCO director quarterly, sharing program updates and reflections with social work colleagues/supervisors, and bringing social work team input/feedback to the METCO director as needed.
  • Parent/caregiver outreach, engagement, and support
  • Behavioral and clinical crisis intervention, including assessment and facilitation of hospitalizations when necessary
  • Participation in student IEP/Team Meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the School Principal, Director of SEL & Counseling
  • Case management responsibilities with collateral contacts and partnering with local and state agencies, ensuring cultural and linguistic needs are considered in care coordination
Additional Skills
  • Experience with data collection and reporting
  • Ability to support improved academic achievement for students

Salary and Benefits are consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Arlington School Committee and the Arlington Education Association.

The Salary Schedule is on our website. Salary placement is based on Education and Experience.

Arlington has a well-established new teacher induction program with mentoring throughout the school year. The first official work day in the  school year will be August 31, 2026. However, new staff are required to attend several days of orientation and training during the last two weeks of August.
