Admissions Counselor

Responsibilities

• Develop a network of alumni by identifying and training successful alumni willing to help recruit students, and coordinating the network's activities.
• Develop a profile of students attracted to the college by conducting research, interviewing applicants, designing questionnaires for current students, analyzing questionnaire results, and conducting focus groups.
• Evaluate recruitment techniques by determining the effectiveness of each technique used by admissions, discerning the appeal of admissions literature, and defining the expectations of the college to be instilled in incoming students.
• Recruit students by visiting high schools, attending college nights, and visiting community colleges and technological institutions.
• Welcome prospective students by processing paperwork, interviewing applicants, arranging and conducting campus tours, and conducting follow-up activities such as letter writing and phone‑calling campaigns.
• Maintain recruiting operations by following policies and procedures and reporting needed changes.
• Complete projects by identifying and implementing new technology and resources, and redesigning systems.
• Improve quality results by studying, evaluating, and redesigning processes and implementing changes.
• Avoid legal challenges by complying with legal requirements.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
• Enhance admissions department and university reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
