Building Substitute
The Building Substitute will support the general operation of the school by assisting where needed during the day. This includes covering for teachers who are absent from their classrooms for a portion of a day or the entire day to ensure proper supervision of students and that class assignments are conveyed per the wishes of the teacher.
Associates Degree Required;
Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Experience working with children
Ability to coordinate with and work as a member of a school building that includes Principal, Classroom Teachers, Special Educators, other building staff, related service personnel, clinicians and parents
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Assists with classroom management in general and special education classrooms in the absence of the regular teacher
Accurately implements content, instructional and performance modifications as designed by the classroom teacher
Covers for teaching assistants as necessary to support students with special needs in accessing the curriculum.
May cover for art, music, and physical education teachers who are absent. At the middle and high schools, may also cover for technology, FACS, and world language teachers who are absent.
May accompany students on field trips.
Greets students upon arrival to school, assists with student dismissal.
May cover the front desk during secretary's lunch or break.
Attends staff and building meetings and three Professional Development days (two before the beginning of the school year and one during the school year)
Performs other duties as delineated by Principal or other supervisor

Salary/Benefits:
Per AEA Paraprofessional Contract. Eligible for benefits including health insurance, dental insurance and life insurance and Town of Arlington Retirement System. Sick Days and Personal Days.

Effectively manage a classroom of students by keeping them on task and engaged
Assumes all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher
Follow lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher
Supervise and ensure safety of students during classroom hours
Maintain a positive learning environment
Leave feedback and notes for the regular classroom teacher
Assist with non-classroom duties when assigned
Be scheduled on daily (Monday-Friday) substitute assignments
Open to working in a different classroom each day
Follow through with scheduled assignments
Be flexible when asked to complete duties beyond original assignment
Must model professional experience, attitude, and demeanor
Maintain student and staff confidentiality
