Pre-K Teacher

Reports To:

Building Principal

Term: 10 months (200-day contract)

Job Goal:
To plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in a pre-kindergarten learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

Qualifications and Training:

• Bachelor's degree as required by the State of Tennessee
• Teacher's certificate with qualifying endorsement area
• Must be at least 21 years old
• Must undergo a physical exam by a healthcare provider every three (3) years
• Must receive at least 30 hours of documented professional development in the area of early childhood education
• FBI/TBI Fingerprint/Background Clearance every five (5) years
• Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent might find appropriate and acceptable

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Conducts and maintains a highly organized and professionally functioning classroom.
• Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans
• Collaborates with other faculty in the delivery of appropriate instructional approaches.
• Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Shows empathy and understanding of students.
• Proactively resolves problems that might arise with students and parents.
• Directs educational assistant, student teachers, substitutes, volunteers, and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
• Facilitates preschool students' learning for the purpose of improving the students' academic success and transition to elementary school.
• Facilitates parent/student/teacher conferences.
• Continues professional development.
• Follows policies established by Jackson-Madison County School Board and Tennessee State Department of Education.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
