Position Summary
The Accountant I will be responsible for providing accounting support, including various organizational processes such as account management, monthly reconciliations, purchasing, and invoicing for the mathematics department. This position requires initiative and independent judgment, as well as the ability to work effectively with staff, faculty, and administration at all levels.
The annual salary for this position ranges from $45,400-$50,000. The final offer will be based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist with processing travel reimbursements.
- Obtain financial information from the UTA accounting system to manage department funds by cost centers and grants at the budget and transaction level.
- Enter and track budget corrections and transfers for both cost centers and grants.
- Reconcile monthly financial statements for cost centers and grants in the UTA accounting system.
- Enter IDT Journal Entries for the department and the Life Sciences Core Facility in the UTA accounting system.
- Run UTA accounting system queries for data gathering and analysis.
- Oversee monthly reconciliation of Pro Card/credit card transaction logs and enter data into the UTA accounting system.
- Maintain all source documents in department computer files.
- Assist with budget tracking and maintaining spreadsheets for department funds.
- Serve as a valuable and engaged team member within the mathematics department.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
- Moderate-level working knowledge and experience of Excel.
- Minimum of two (2) years of accounting experience within a large academic department or a comparable setting.
- Experience and knowledge in grant accounting.
- Experience with the UTShare accounting system.
- Knowledge of the University’s accounting policies and procedures.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
- Efficient and competent working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to learn and master new software as needed for the role.
