ROLE AND PURPOSE:
- To provide direct and facilitated educational services in the hospital/home to eligible general education and special education students who are temporarily unable to attend classes on their home campus due to serious illness, injury or accidents.
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
- Must hold a valid general education Texas Teacher Certification for the level at which instruction is to occur, which could be kindergarten through 12th grade.
- Valid Texas special education teaching certificate with required endorsements (preferred).
- Valid Texas Driver's License with a clear driving history and reliable transportation.
- Demonstrate the ability to utilize various forms of electronic equipment and software including visual and audio telecommunication system, web-based systems, information retrieval and data management systems as well as Office software components.
- Able to instruct students in varied, complicated conditions and environments.
- Able to work with students in crisis situations due to acute, catastrophic illnesses or injuries while demonstrating flexibility and empathy.
- Minimum three (3) years excellent teaching experience.
- Knowledge of the core curriculum areas of instruction (at all levels) and experience working with special needs students.
INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
- Demonstrate knowledge of and implement 504 Plans and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Demonstrate organizational and time management skills to effectively serve multiple campuses; manage frequent schedule changings and interruptions.
- Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be self-driven and independent while supporting and working with the homebound leaders and team members.
- Participate in General Education Homebound (GEH) or ARD committee meetings as assigned by the department leaders.
- Contact the student's teachers regularly to secure assignments and any special information needed to provide engaging instruction and meet the student's needs.
- Facilitate the transportation of student assignments and implementation of instructional activities provided by the student's campus teacher of record and/or assigned tasks through the district's digital curriculum system.
- Implement engaging and effective instruction within and across disciplines, taking into consideration the cognitive, affective and physical abilities of each student due to the current medical conditions and treatments.
- Utilize appropriate technology needed to enhance and deliver instruction.
- Serve as a liaison between school faculty/staff and the student/parent for delivery of instructional services
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality of student records and situations.
- Maintain all data records as required as part of the homebound services department and compliance related regulations.
- Work with families and campus staff to ensure smooth transition of students going back to the regular school setting.
- Maintain regular communication with the homebound department leads and other team members including changes in individual team member's schedules and student medical circumstances.
- Pursue guidance, feedback and suggestions from the homebound department leaders.
- Compile, maintain, and submit all reports, records, and other documents as assigned.
- Assess student progress and effectively collaborate and communicate with building staff, parents and students to ensure student's success.
- Build and maintain a positive relationship with assigned students and parents
- Maintain an organized and safe learning experience and environment
- Provide vigilant supervision of the student while providing instruction in the student's home to alert the parent/designee of any concerns.
- Recognize indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate intervention, referral or reporting actions
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, yourself, equipment and materials.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and stakeholders within the community.
- Maintain professional relationships and educational discussions, as need, with outside health and medical service providers in the student's home.
- Participate in professional development in areas that will improve implementation of the student's academic instruction.
- Participate in weekly homebound services PLC meetings.
- Consider other professional learning as recommended by the supervising coordinator.
- Develop annual personal growth goals for continuous professional learning.
