ROLE ANDPURPOSE:
The Curriculum and Instruction Specialist for Intervention will assist with the development, implementation and monitoring of district and school wide Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS), Response to Instruction (RtI) and academic intervention initiatives. The ultimate goal of the specialist is to assist in the implementation, guidance and support to assure that effective, high-quality, research-based academic intervention instruction creates an education system focusing on maximizing learning and creating success for all students.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:
- PK - 12 Texas Teaching Certification required
- Administrative Certification preferred
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution required
- Minimum five years of successful teaching experience
- Working knowledge of academic intervention services and Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS) principles and processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
I. INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
- Assist in leading, designing, implementing, delivering and supporting ongoing staff development in the areas of MTSS, RtI, instructional strategies, components of differentiated instruction and tiered academic interventions.
- Assist in engaging staff in employing a multi-tiered intervention and problem-solving model at the district, building, classroom, and individual student levels.
- Provide guidance in the selection and management of intervention, MTSS and RtI instructional materials.
- Assist in the selection, development and execution of academic intervention, MTSS and RtI professional development.
- Applies knowledge of state standards, research, and evidence based instructional practices into the planning and design of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Assists department in designing, developing, implementing and evaluating new instructional resources, tools, and supplemental materials.
- Designs and facilitates effective professional learning to support the overall implementation of the curriculum, and effective teaching strategies including job-embedded coaching, modeling, and demonstration teaching.
- Provide organizational support for campuses and staff assigned that leads to expected outcomes.
- Attends and participates in Academic Services, department, and other meetings and committees as required.
- Displays high visibility and effective communication skills on campuses to support, monitor, observe curriculum delivery, instructional practices, intervention practices, and professional learning implementation.
- Exemplifies effective problem-solving methods that are customer-service oriented.
- Utilizes excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Displays a strong ability to work independently as a self-starter with excellent time management skills.
- Participates as an effective tea member who contributes to District, department, team, and individual goals.
- Assist with the development and implementation of district policies and procedures related to the MTSS framework as a method of identifying students for strategic and intensive interventions.
- Collaborate closely with the Social-Emotional and PBIS departments to ensure alignment and inclusion of behavior initiatives.
- Assist the coordinator and/or director in identifying and improving the effectiveness of academic intervention, MTSS and RtI procedures and processes throughout the district.
- Assist campuses with strategic planning for academic intervention implementation and improvement.
- Provide technical assistance in the documentation of data to campuses implementing MTSS.
- Ensure consistency and fidelity of implementation of research-based intervention resources.
- Demonstrates success in improving student achievement as measured by local and state assessment results, and other district performance criteria.
- Assist in the implementation and evaluation of instructional initiatives and response to intervention strategies and activities district wide.
- Promote the use of research-based interventions in the classroom.
- Develop and refine maintenance of records and management of reporting systems.
- Facilitate a system of record keeping which includes methods for storage and transfer of records related to MTSS.
- Analyze and interpret district wide data trends to improve student achievement.
- Serve as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students including English learners, students, with disabilities and students with diverse learning needs.
