Terms of Employment: This FLSA exempt position is salaried and based on a 187‑day work calendar. Pay is determined by years of experience using the school’s annual salary scale.
Primary
Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in Spanish to facilitate their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies for successful functioning in society.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
- ESL endorsement preferred
- Demonstrated competency in Spanish
- K‑3 teachers must complete HB Reading Academy before or after hire
- STR certification in core subjects (EC‑6, ELAR 4‑8, ELAR/Social Studies 4‑8)
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid Texas driver’s license, and a good driving record
- Must meet liability insurance coverage eligibility
- Spanish Teacher Certifications for Middle School: LOTE Certification – grades EC‑12, Secondary – grades 6‑8 or 6‑12 or All‑level teacher certification
- Two years of classroom experience preferred
- Knowledge of core academic subject (Spanish)
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation
- Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles
- Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment reflecting student needs
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
- Work with other staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s)
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
- Cooperate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students under IEP guidelines
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal
- Be a positive role model, supporting the school’s mission
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ development
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
- Establish and maintain open communication through conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills
- Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies
- Compile, maintain, and file required physical and computerized reports and records
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
