Deaf Education Interpreter and Support Instructional Paraprofessional

Provide physical and instructional support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in both Special Education and General Education settings. Assist in implementing classroom programs, including communication, self‑help, behavior management, and instructional program under the supervision of a certified teacher.

FLSA non‑exempt, hourly position with a 187‑day school‑year calendar. Pay is based on years of experience according to the annually reviewed hourly salary schedule. The position is grant‑funded; continued employment is contingent upon the availability and continuation of grant funding.

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate
• Certificate from the Texas Board for Evaluation and Interpreters (BEI) or the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) is required

• Minimum of 1–2 years of interpreting in an educational setting (preferred)
• Ability to work well with children
• Effective communication skills
• Knowledge of the Deaf community and fluency in American Sign Language, with thorough knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary

• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
• Support the instructional program under direct supervision of a certified teacher, adapting to each student’s physical, communicative, medical, and emotional needs
• Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom, including inventory and care of equipment
• Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
• Partner with general education teachers, speech therapists, and other staff to preview lesson plans, technical vocabulary, and materials ahead of time
• Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher with individual students or small groups
• Supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom (lunchroom, hallway, and playground duty)
• Inform teacher of special needs or problems of individual students
• Facilitate peer‑to‑peer communication during recess, lunch, group work, and extracurricular activities to foster social development
• Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
• Maintain confidentiality
• Perform other duties as assigned

Full‑time position with hourly pay ranging from $24.00 to $39.00 per hour

• At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred
• High School/Trade School degree preferred
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required
