  • Position Type:
    Part-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)
  • Schedule:

    Approximately 6–8 hours per week during the academic year.
  • Work Schedule:

    Typically includes instruction Mondays-Thursday, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm (3-6 year olds) and Friday, 11:30 am – 3:00 pm (Elementary), with occasional additional approved hours for rehearsals, performances, or special school events.
  • Employment Term:
    School-year position (August–May)
Role Summary

The Music Education Specialist designs and implements a developmentally appropriate music program for Kindergarten (Mondays) and Elementary students (Fridays). The program supports whole-child development through singing, movement, rhythm, instrumental exploration, listening, and creative expression while complementing Montessori classroom learning. The Specialist cultivates confidence, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation of music by creating engaging musical experiences and meaningful performance opportunities.

Core Responsibilities Student Development & Relationships
  • Build respectful, encouraging relationships with students.
  • Foster creativity, confidence, and self-expression through music.
  • Encourage participation, collaboration, and mutual respect during musical experiences.
  • Support students in developing listening skills, concentration, and positive peer interactions.
  • Design and implement a sequence of developmentally appropriate music lessons for Kindergarten and Elementary students.
  • Align instruction with Montessori philosophy, developmental goals, and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for music.
  • Introduce students to rhythm, melody, beat, tempo, dynamics, musical form, notation, and expressive performance through active participation.
  • Incorporate singing, movement, instruments, games, music appreciation, and creative exploration into lessons.
  • Expose students to a variety of musical genres, cultures, and traditions that support Cosmic Education and global understanding.
  • Differentiate instruction to encourage participation and success for all learners.
Collaboration with Classroom Teachers
  • Coordinate with classroom teachers to complement and extend classroom studies whenever appropriate.
  • Integrate music into cultural studies, seasonal celebrations, and school traditions.
  • Serve as a resource to classroom teachers on topics related to music, movement, and performance.
  • Support school-wide celebrations and community-building events through music.
Performances & School Events
  • Plan, organize, and prepare students for school music performances and special musical events throughout the school year.
  • Collaborate with administration and classroom teachers regarding performance logistics and scheduling.
  • Additional hours may be approved for concerts, rehearsals, and other special events outside the regular teaching schedule.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music, or a related field (preferred).
  • Appropriate music education certification or equivalent teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching children 3-12 years old.
  • Experience working in a Montessori environment (preferred).
  • Experience with Orff Schulwerk, Kodály, Dalcroze, or similar child-centered music approaches (preferred).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and families from diverse backgrounds.
