Electronics Technician, Electronics Engineer
Chip 1 Exchange is hiring a Quality Control Inspector with hands‑on electronics knowledge to perform advanced system‑level and component‑level inspection of electronic hardware in a professional ESD‑controlled laboratory.
This is a technical, analytical position. It is not a supervisory role and not checklist‑based production inspection. This role requires comfort working directly with CPUs, RAM, ICs, PCBs, GPUs, storage devices, and semiconductor components using microscopes, X‑Ray inspection systems, and material analysis tools.
This position is best suited for individuals who:
- Have physically built, repaired, or diagnosed computer hardware
- Understand how electronic components function within a system
- Are comfortable reading datasheets and technical specifications
- Naturally question inconsistencies rather than simply recording them
This role emphasizes hands‑on electronics and hardware inspection experience within a technical laboratory setting. Candidates with direct exposure to electronic components, semiconductor devices, or computer hardware will be best positioned for success in this environment.
Why You’ll Love This Role- Professional Lab Environment - Work in a clean, climate‑controlled, ESD‑safe lab — not an assembly line.
- Advanced Technical Tools - Use high‑magnification microscope inspection, X‑Ray imaging, XRF material analysis, and chemical de‑encapsulation techniques.
- Technical Specialization - Develop expertise in counterfeit electronics detection under IDEA‑1010B, AS6081, ISO 9001, and AS9120 standards.
- Comprehensive Benefits - Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Retirement Plan, and PTO (after 90 days).
- Inspect HDDs, SSDs, RAM modules, GPUs, motherboards, networking devices, and electronic assemblies.
- Evaluate PCB integrity, solder joints, connectors, labeling accuracy, and part markings.
- Compare hardware against OEM documentation and manufacturer specifications.
- Inspect ICs, CPUs, memory chips, discrete and non‑discrete semiconductor devices.
- Identity package types (BGA, QFP, SOIC, DIP) and verify physical characteristics.
- Detect resurfacing, re‑marking, sanding, coating inconsistencies, bent leads, and counterfeit indicators.
- Perform detailed high‑magnification microscope visual inspection.
- Operate X‑Ray inspection systems to analyze internal die structure and lead frames.
- Utilize XRF material analysis equipment to verify material composition.
- Cross‑reference inspection findings with datasheets and technical schematics.
- Apply structured diagnostic reasoning to distinguish authentic manufacturing variance from potential tampering.
- Record inspection findings with high‑resolution images and detailed technical notes.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 and AS9120 quality standards.
- Follow OSHA, ESD, radiation safety, and chemical handling protocols.
Skills & Qualifications Relevant Experience
- 1 - 3 years of relevant experience in Electronics Quality Control (QC), Electronics Technician, Hardware Technician, computer hardware repair, electronics troubleshooting, or similar technical roles preferred.
- Experience with counterfeit electronic component detection is a strong plus.
- CompTIA A+ certification is a strong plus.
- Hands‑on experience handling CPUs, RAM, ICs, PCBs, GPUs, storage devices, and semiconductor components.
- Ability to read datasheets and basic schematics without assistance.
- Clear understanding of component‑level versus system‑level hardware behavior.
- Demonstrated ability to detect minute inconsistencies in markings, texture, and physical condition.
- Logical, evidence‑based evaluation skills.
- Comfort making judgement calls supported by documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Primarily Outlook and Excel).
- Ability to independently locate manufacturer datasheets and technical documentation using search engines and technical information sites.
- Willingness to work around low‑level radiation equipment (X‑Ray) and chemical solvents (Acetone, Dynasolve).
- Strict adherence to ESD and safety protocols.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Mandarin or Spanish proficiency is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- First Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
- ESD‑controlled laboratory setting.
- Daily use of microscope inspection and X‑Ray inspection systems.
- Exposure to controlled chemical solvents.
- Fine motor skills and ability to lift up to 50 lbs. required.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
