Job Summary
The Engineering Technician III will provide technical support to students in the teaching laboratories and Makerspaces within, or shared by, the Department of Electrical Engineering. The role involves 50% time supporting the EE/CSE makerspace and 50% time supporting EE Labs.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Assist students in the makerspace with design projects, including PCB design and milling, 3D modeling and printing, soldering, CNC milling, and laser cutting.
- Train students in the effective use of laboratory instruments and associated components, such as power supplies, DMMs, signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, microcontrollers, and other instrumentation.
- Train students on PCB milling, through‑hole plating, masking, and 3D printing processes.
- Perform yearly inventory, maintain room, asset, and equipment stewardship records, and manage surplus equipment.
- Maintain operational equipment in the makerspace and labs, including 3D printers, soldering stations, CNC mills, PCB mills, and related electronics.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience with basic electronics and troubleshooting.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related technical field.
- Experience working with 3D printers, CNC mills, laser cutting, or related fabrication equipment.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to train students on use of specific instruments and software, including PCB mills, laser cutters, saws, through‑hole platers, CNC mills, 3D printers, and materials.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office/365, PCB design software, and CAD/CAM software.
