The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking a Principal Transportation Planner to assume a leadership role in its Transportation Safety Program. The individual in this position will manage the development and implementation of regional transportation safety coordination efforts and initiatives.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:- Supporting the collection, process, maintenance, and analysis of regional safety data, including crash and fatality, hazardous material spill, and efforts related to regional crash rate development activities
- Managing the administration of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Equipment and Training Program and CVE Working Group activities
- Managing activities related to the Wrong Way Driving Mitigation Project and Intersection Safety Improvement Program
- Managing activities related to the development, tracking, and reporting of regional and federal safety performance targets with regional partners and department staff
- Managing the implementation of the new NCTCOG CRASH predictive crash analysis software tool
- Managing the update of the NCTCOG Roadway Safety Plan and coordinating the development of NCTCOG’s Roadway Safety Implementation Plan
- Managing activities related to the regional systemic and systematic safety improvement funding program activities
- Coordinating efforts related to the Regional Safety Advisory Committee
- Planning, coordinating, and engaging in activities to promote transportation safety related initiatives
- Developing and monitoring project schedules, work scopes and budgets and monitoring expenditures, and reports
- Preparing and delivering oral presentations
- Preparing and reviewing correspondence, documentation, articles, reports, and executive summaries
- Supervising staff
- Strong communication, both verbal and written skills
- Good interpersonal, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing the quality of work
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel, working knowledge of Access preferred
- Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Experience working with safety related data, including crash data and/or crash reports
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods
- At least five years of work-related work experience (e.g., transportation safety planning)
Minimum of $85,798.06 - $ annually
