The primary purpose of a Teller is to assist with member needs by searching for ways to provide convenient, efficient financial tools and options through the selling of products and performing additional operational duties. This position ensures members’ monetary transactions and financial inquiries in a courteous and professional manner. The Teller position can also assist in supporting of other branch employees and positions as the first line of contact in a member’s Credit Union transaction and will play a vital role in delivering the Allied Experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Proactively identify and cross-sell appropriate banking products and services to members
- Deliver exceptional customer service through professional telephone and in-person interactions
- Resolve member inquiries and concerns efficiently, demonstrating problem-solving expertise
- Provide comprehensive assistance with online banking, bill pay, and mobile banking troubleshooting
- Address basic IRA questions and guide members toward appropriate resources
- Process deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, and VISA credit card transactions with precision
- Execute cash advances, cashier's checks, money orders, and transfer requests
- Verify all transactions for accuracy, proper endorsements, and document negotiability
- Monitor deposit amounts and identify potential discrepancies or fraudulent activity
- Maintain accurate daily cash balances
- Process incoming and outgoing wire transfers and provide related member assistance
- Balance daily transactions and verify cash totals independently
- Issue temporary checks and process check orders efficiently
- Perform account maintenance, file management, and document processing
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail distribution
- Maintain strict compliance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Safeguard member privacy and confidentiality at all times
- Demonstrate self-direction and initiative in managing multiple priorities simultaneously
- Work effectively during periods of minimal supervision or coverage
- Make sound decisions independently while knowing when to elevate complex issues
- Maintain operational continuity and member service standards regardless of staffing levels
- Take ownership of branch operations and ensure seamless daily functions
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous cash handling experience in banking, retail, or financial services preferred
- Demonstrated experience working independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong mathematical aptitude and attention to detail
- Proficiency with computer applications and banking software systems
- Ability to operate various business equipment (calculators, cash counters, etc.)
- Professional demeanor, appearance, and customer service orientation
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods (up to 2+ hours)
- Capability to lift up to 30 pounds
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and operational needs
