** JOB SUMMARY
** Under general supervision, enforces applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances to promote property   maintenance standards for single-family, multi-family, and commercial properties. This position will interact with   City of Arlington citizens, property owners, tenants, and business owners/managers to promote safe, strong, and   attractive neighborhoods.

* ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

*** Conduct inspections of single-family properties, multi-family properties, commercial properties, and public swimming pools.
* Perform administrative duties, including preparing emails, case documentation, notices of violation, affidavits, and inspection warrants.
* Effectively correspond verbally and in writing with citizens and route complaints to appropriate personnel. Read, interpret, and explain ordinances, and follow standard operating procedures.
** OTHER

JOB FUNCTIONS:

*** Issue citations and testify in court.
* Work with citizens and connect them with available services.
* Promote and contribute to Code Compliance programs and community events.
* Remove illegally placed bandit signs.
* Conduct nuisance abatements using a variety of methods and tools.
* Coordinate and facilitate contractor abatements of code violations.

* MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

*** Ability to work and make decisions independently.

* Knowledge of state, local, and federal laws and regulations pertaining to code compliance.
* Knowledge of legal proceedings involved in code compliance.
* Knowledge of methods and techniques of interviewing and conducting investigations.
* Knowledge of strong customer service practices.

* Skill in developing periodic reports and correspondence.
* Skill in managing multiple tasks.
* Skill in communicating ideas, concepts, and terminology effectively to other staff and the public through oral and written means.

* Ability to write clear and concise letters and reports.
* Ability to read and interpret laws, ordinances, and regulations.

* Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment utilized in code compliance work.
* Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.

* Ability to perform a wide variety of physical skills, including but not limited to hearing, speaking, climbing, driving, lifting, seeing, squatting, reaching, and walking.
* Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including but not limited to, calculator, MS Office applications, personal computer programs, and telephone.
* Ability to work hours may include weekends, evenings and/or after hour calls. Duty assignments may require rotation within divisional units or assignments because of the technical, procedural and/or legal knowledge required of the assignment.

** Qualifying

Education and Experience:

*** High School Diploma or GED.
* Two (2) years of work experience related to customer service, code enforcement, housing inspections, pool inspections, construction, quality control, or a related area.
* Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Mental Health First Aid Certification or other certification approved by the department head, within 12 months.
* State of Texas Basic Code Enforcement Officer Certification or ability to obtain within 1 year.
* Must have a valid Texas driver's license.
