Job Description

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Dallas-Fort Worth region, which is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the United States.
The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking an Intern to support activities in the Land Use and Mobility Options program area. The student in this position will assist with planning in areas such as land use and transportation, bicycle and pedestrian planning, and community schools through coordination, research, and data analysis. This internship will provide a student with valuable experience in the planning for livability and multimodal transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
Ideal candidates should attend school in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and be able to work up to 30 hours per week while attending school.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Working with supervisor to compile and summarize project information for planning studies
- Assisting with the collection, process, and analysis of land-use, transportation, and demographic data
- Entering data and maintaining spreadsheets, files, and other information systems
- Working with supervisor to create and edit maps, and process spatial and tabular data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS/ESRI ArcGIS Pro)
- Drafting and preparing reports, presentations, checklists, documents, public outreach content, and education materials for supervisor review
- Working with supervisor to perform quality control on completed work
Required Skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Basic knowledge of GIS principles and the ESRI ArcGIS Pro platform
- Good communication, both verbal and written, and interpersonal skills, with ability to listen to instructions, coordinate with other team members, and present ideas and completed deliverables
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to handle multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline driven environment without diminishing quality of work
- Good analytical skills, with ability to identify data discrepancies
Required Education and Experience
- Must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program during employment
- No work experience required
- At least one year of school-related experience
Minimum of $17.10 per hour
