Job Description
Nursing Facilities Nurse Surveyor – Starting Market Rate Salary $89,690.71. As part of a collaborative team of public servants, a nurse III protects residents’ health and safety by conducting on‑site inspections and investigations in Texas long‑term care settings (nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and day activities health services) to assess their compliance with state and federal laws and rules. The position offers a competitive salary, excellent state benefits, and the opportunity to travel to different facilities within a region and across the state.
EssentialJob Functions (EJFs)
- Conduct on‑site licensure inspections, complaint and incident investigations, and annual comprehensive surveys to determine compliance with health and safety regulations in areas such as admissions, resident rights, staffing, quality of care, and therapeutic activity programming.
- Communicate clearly and accurately with internal and external stakeholders to provide, exchange, or verify information, answer inquiries, and resolve issues.
- Conduct exit conferences with facility staff regarding findings and complete inspection or survey reports detailing deficiencies.
- Revisit facilities to verify correction of previously cited regulatory violations; perform quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others.
- Might supervise team members during inspections, provide technical assistance to facilities, and lend expertise to a survey team.
- Occasionally testify at hearings or in court proceedings to provide information regarding policy/procedures, findings, or activities.
- Assist with emergency licensure action, provide non‑skilled care oversight, and potentially provide skilled care when necessary.
- Be available for on‑call duties for emergencies such as weather events or high‑priority situations.
- Knowledge of issues concerning populations at risk in various health care environments.
- Knowledge of nursing principles and acceptable professional standards of patient care.
- Skill in interpersonal relations, program review, certification, survey, or investigations.
- Skill in providing guidance, policy clarifications, and information to others.
- Skill in preparing detailed written reports and oral, written, and electronic communications.
- Ability to multi‑task, track multiple activities, collect and analyze data, integrate complex concepts, solve work problems, interpret regulatory policies, work independently, use computer for report writing, exercise professional judgment, and stay organized and punctual.
- Must be licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- Must complete all federal/state training for Nursing Facilities, including Surveyor Minimum Qualification Training (SMQT) within one year of hire.
- Experience in a Long‑term Care Regulatory program is preferred.
