Job SummaryThe Web Software Specialist I in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining web content and web-based applications. This role serves faculty, staff, students, and the public by delivering high‑quality, accessible web content and knowledge base resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manage media, communications, and marketing content using technologies such as HTML5, CSS3 and tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint, and Premiere to meet department goals, project needs, and client objectives.
- Publish content on content management systems (CMS) such as Cascade, Sitecore, Drupal, Joomla, or Word Press; monitor division web sites for compliance with industry best practices, university policy, language use, spelling, broken links, EIR accessibility, privacy (GDPR), and SEO.
- Monitor and report on website analytics, user behavior, and usage trends.
- Translate customer needs into wireframes and composition files, forming viable web and multimedia formats.
- Coordinate with campus members and make critical decisions; assist in creating textual and visual content for print and web-based systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, two (2) years of experience in a related field, or six (6) years of any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current technologies and practices.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with content management systems such as Word Press, Cascade, Sitecore.
- Experience with accessibility testing tools such as Siteimprove, WAVE.
- Experience with user experience (UX) design principles.
Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and best practices for building inclusive websites.
- Knowledge of responsive design and mobile‑first web development techniques.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, Git Hub, Bitbucket.
- Knowledge of web performance optimization techniques such as lazy loading and image compression.
- Ability to troubleshoot and debug complex issues with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
