What you will be doing:

The Director of Development will secure private and voluntary support from alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations on behalf of UT Arlington and the College of Science. This role manages a portfolio of 80–100 major gift prospects and is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors in close partnership with the Dean and academic leadership.

The Director serves as a strategic fundraising partner to the College of Science, advancing philanthropic priorities while collaborating closely with colleagues across Development and Alumni Relations to execute integrated fundraising strategies.

How you will be spending your time:
  • Manage a portfolio of 80–100 prospective and current major gift donors.
  • Conduct in-person visits and substantive engagement with alumni, individuals, corporate representatives, and foundation officers.
  • Develop and execute cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies in coordination with the Dean of the College of Science.
  • Secure major gifts in support of College priorities.
Strategic Partnership with the College of Science (20%)
  • Serve as an integral fundraising partner to the Dean and College leadership.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify funding priorities and align donor interests.
  • Participate in strategic engagement opportunities and advancement initiatives for the College.
  • Partner with the Executive Director for Unit Development on fundraising initiatives and special projects.
  • Collaborate with Development and Alumni Relations colleagues to advance institutional goals.
  • Supervise one Development Coordinator.
  • Assist in oversight and engagement of the College of Science Advisory Council.
  • Participate in volunteer leadership cultivation and stewardship activities.
The experience you will bring:
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of major gift fundraising experience with demonstrated success securing significant gifts; or related and transferable experience from corporate, community, or philanthropic organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
  • Strong commitment to institutional mission and values.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to deliver compelling presentations.
  • Proven ability to manage complex relationships and collaborate across teams.
  • Ability to work within a metrics-driven environment with measurable goals for activity and fundraising results.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively and work evenings/weekends as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of major gift fundraising experience with a track record of securing six-figure gifts and higher.
  • Experience in higher education advancement.
  • Experience fundraising for a College of Science or academic unit.
  • Knowledge of planned giving vehicles and gift planning strategies.
  • Experience with Blackbaud (Raiser’s Edge NXT) or comparable advancement CRM systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and constituents.
