The Role
The Materials Supervisor is responsible for leading material flow, inventory control, shipping and receiving activities to ensure materials are available when and where they are needed to support production. This role maintains accurate inventory levels, coordinates material movement, supports supplier and logistics activities, and drives improvements that optimize efficiency, reduce excess inventory, and prevent production disruptions.
The Materials Supervisor also plays a key role in new product launches by supporting plant readiness, material systems, floor layouts, and the implementation of processes needed for a successful launch. This position works closely with production, purchasing, tooling, suppliers, logistics, and other cross-functional teams to resolve issues and achieve company and customer goals.
What You Will Do- Lead shipping, receiving, and material handling activities to support safe and efficient operations.
- Maintain accurate inventory and material transactions using QAD and other ERP/MRP systems.
- Monitor Min/Max, Kanban, and MRP systems to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Optimize inventory levels while reducing excess, obsolete, and end-of-life materials.
- Coordinate receiving, material returns, tooling shipments, and resolution of shipping or inventory discrepancies.
- Partner with suppliers, carriers, purchasing, tooling, and production teams to resolve material issues and maintain delivery schedules.
- Support new product launches through material planning, plant readiness, layouts, storage, and system implementation.
- Drive improvements in material flow, plant organization, 5S, inventory accuracy, and overall efficiency.
- Identify risks and opportunities, solve problems, and implement practical solutions.
- Promote a safe, organized, and customer-focused work environment.
- Must be willing to work 3rd Shift.
- Experience in materials, inventory, logistics, shipping/receiving, or production control in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with ERP/MRP, Kanban, Min/Max, or other material management systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and respond effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with internal teams, suppliers, and logistics partners.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of material flow, inventory control, and plant layouts.
- Experience leading teams or coordinating cross-functional activities.
- Commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction.
- QAD Mfg Pro or GM MGO experience.
- Automotive manufacturing or new product launch experience.
- Knowledge of IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements.
