Job Description & How to Apply Below
The City of Arlington’s Office of Communication is looking for a creative and tech-savvy Digital Media Specialist to serve the Parks, Recreation & Culture (PRC) Department. We’re looking for someone who’s not afraid to get creative, have fun and jump into action both in front of and behind the camera! You’ll be in charge of bringing the department’s digital content to life.
This means brainstorming, creating and sharing engaging content about Arlington's award-winning parks, facilities, programs, and events across social media and City websites.
- Create Shareable, Buzz-Worthy Content: Design and produce compelling content that captures the essence of our department. Think social media influencer vibes—your content will make people stop scrolling and engage with our posts.
- Be the Face of PRC on Social Media: Lead and participate in videos, live streams, or behind-the-scenes content to showcase our Naturally Fun brand. Whether you're showing off a new park feature, spotlighting a program, or participating in trending challenges, you'll be the public face driving engagement.
- Trend-Spotting & Quick Content Creation: Keep an eye on viral trends, challenges, and hot topics on social media, and figure out how to seamlessly incorporate them into our content strategy. You’ll be able to jump on opportunities quickly, creating timely and relevant posts that align with PRC's mission and goals.
- Engage with the Community: Actively interact with followers by responding to comments, running polls or Q&As, and sparking conversations to build a strong online community. You’ll be the voice of the PRC department in the digital space, making connections and generating excitement.
- Content Calendar Management
:
Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure a steady stream of diverse content that includes promotions, event highlights, community stories, location spotlights and more. You'll be in charge of planning, scheduling and posting. - Track and Analyze Performance: Use analytics tools to track the success of your content, adjusting strategies based on what resonates most with the community. Focus on growing engagement, increasing followers, and driving traffic to our website and online registration platforms.
- Collaborate with Local Influencers & Partners: Work with local influencers, city partners, and other community figures to cross-promote content, enhance visibility, and expand the PRC department's digital reach.
- Build and Maintain Digital Spaces: Maintain and support the PRC websites and intranet, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, accessible and secure by collaborating with internal teams to update web content using a content management system and recommended best practices.
We’re looking for someone who blends creativity with strategy and can manage multiple priorities. You’ll thrive in this role if you are:
- Creative Storyteller: You can think outside the box to create fun, engaging digital content that gets attention. You are quick to jump on trends and can blend them in without losing authenticity.
- Camera-Ready: You’re comfortable being in front of the camera, whether filming videos, taking photos or participating in live content. You know how to bring energy, personality and authenticity to every post while remaining professional and welcoming.
- Tech Savvy: You're an expert in website and social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, You Tube, etc.) and know how to use their tools, algorithms and features to maximize reach and engagement.
- Self-Starter and Organized: You can work independently to create content, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects at once without needing constant oversight.
- Collaborative: While you work well independently, you also take the initiative to reach out to peers and actively seek opportunities to better promote and highlight our diverse group of business units, ensuring their unique stories and offerings get the attention they deserve.
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Social Media or a related field and 3–5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a good driving record
- Experience with municipal government or parks and recreation is preferred but not required.
