The individuals who perform this job provide extraordinary shopping experiences to our guests and exceptional service at the time of checkout.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Know and actively demonstrate daily our Company Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Maintain uniform standards as detailed in the Employee Manual for all worked hours.
  • Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor; use our Guest Services script based on the division in which they serve. For Specs locations: offer the 5% discount, ask for the Specs Key, call the guest by name (if possible), offer additional items, offer the opportunity to give to the charity of the month, and thank the guest for their business.
  • Operate the cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed to access UPC codes or prices.
  • Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  • Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add‑on items, including the charity of the month.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers so that the accurate amounts are charged to the guest.
  • Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
  • Kindly ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction. Never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
  • If necessary, check acceptable identification, use 36 sign‑in, to ensure you make the legal sale. Use best practices and always be professional when checking IDs.
  • Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  • Issue receipts and any change due.
  • Accurately count change back to the guest. No, do not just hand a wad of bills and change to the guest.
  • Bag or box merchandise. When using bags, be business‑mindful (double bag only when asked by the guest for multiple bottle orders, use boxes) and use bottle protectors only when necessary.
  • Assist with carry‑outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on the daily record sheet.
  • Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain proper till balance.
  • Keep work area clean and neat and do not overstock the counter with merchandise.
  • Count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • May resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor checkout station, ensuring all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  • Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Possess time‑management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to manage stress in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Stand most of the shift, bend and walk occasionally. Use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly, up to 50 pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools. Push and/or pull 50–100 pounds or more occasionally. Communicate with and understand team members and guests; see product and payment methods.
  • Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  • Other projects and tasks assigned by management.
  • Clean the restroom as required.
  • Attendance and timeliness are required.
Education or Experience

We'd prefer you to have cashiering experience, but if you're willing to learn, we're willing to teach you. We'd like you to have a high school diploma or a general education degree (GED), but sometimes experience is the best education.

Language Skills

Need to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos. Must be able to communicate with and understand coworkers and guests. Bilingual skills are a plus.
