Research Engineering Scientist Associate - Austin, TX

Job Summary

The Research Engineering Scientist Associate I assists with the evaluation, review, selection, adaptation, and modification of standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria for public water systems design for the Plan and Technical Review Section of the Water Supply Division of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

The annual salary for this position ranges from $45,000 - $50,000. The final offer will be based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.

• Assist in the review of requests for exceptions to public water system design standards, reviewing and evaluating design and performance data and applying regulations.
• Prepare reports and correspondence to record decisions.
• Complete or participate in special projects and technical training as assigned by management and provide assistance to senior staff as requested.
• Provide general technical assistance to entities.
• Perform administrative duties and participate in professional development as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental quality management, environmental science, natural resources, engineering, chemistry, public utilities, business administration, data analysis, or related field; and six months of work experience.
• An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be substituted as appropriate.

• One year experience in data analysis, environmental quality management, public utilities, business administration, or related field.

• Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Word, and Excel; and PCs.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, and time‑management skills.
• Ability to integrate complex concepts, procedures, and processes and communicate verbally with clients, customers, and coworkers.
• Ability to draft routine correspondence, reports, documents, policies, procedures, case narratives, or other lengthy documents.

• Job activities include, but are not limited to, sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying batches of paper up to 10 lbs.
