PRIMARY PURPOSE OF A BUS DRIVER
- Responsible for the operation of their assigned bus in a safe and proper manner, obeying all state and local laws as well as safety policies and route schedules of the AISD.
- Minimum Age 21 years old
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
- Pass annual physical examination
- Possess a CDL License and School Bus Certification or must be able to obtain CDL and Bus Driver Certification within 90 days of employment
- District instructed safety and operational procedure training
- Satisfactory driving record
- Ability to speak and understand English and to read, write and comprehend instructions
- Ability to hear and respond verbally to acts of disruption and/or safety and behavior concerns
- Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Have knowledge relating to operation of all district-owned school buses (preferred)
- Check vehicle before reach run
- Clean outside of bus
- Drive bus in a safe and efficient manner - observe all traffic laws
- Responsible for students entering and exiting the bus
- Responsible for students eligibility
- Sign and complete discipline form
- Must have Commercial Driver License prior to driving a bus with students
- Report any correction on computer route sheets
- Make suggestions on route sheets and return sheets to router
- Make corrections on route sheets and return to router
- Be aware of two mile limits on buses with eligibility problems
- Establish and promote a good relationship with students and parents
- Any other duties assigned by Managers and/or Director
- Fill in all blanks and provide any information needed to complete Special Trip Sheets
- Keep daily log of miles driven and charge the miles to correct program on the time card
- Provide the Transportation Office with a complete description of assigned route and mileage measurements or any update needed of route description or mileage measurements
- All Regular Ed. Drivers will assign seats on all runs - weekly, the first month of school and monthly thereafter. Be able to communicate in English on the radio and in person
- All other duties as assigned by the director or designee
- District-owned school buses and related equipment
Tools/Equipment Used:
Operate school bus; two-way radio; global positioning system (GPS); safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher
Posture:
Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling
Motion:
Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching
Lifting:
Limited light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) on a daily basis
Environment:
Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; work around moving vehicles; regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work prolonged hours
Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress
Note:
In emergency situations the driver may need to lift or pull in excess of the above listing.
Normal work hours: 6:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (6 hrs/day) 5 days/week
