Position: 2026-27 Bus Driver

Minimum Pay

$24.97/hr

Primary Purpose of a Bus Driver

Responsible for the operation of their assigned bus in a safe and proper manner, obeying all state and local laws as well as safety policies and route schedules of the AISD.

Qualifications
  • Minimum age 21 years old
  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • Pass an annual physical examination
  • Possess a CDL License and School Bus Certification or be able to obtain them within 90 days of employment
  • Complete district‑instructed safety and operational procedure training
  • Satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend instructions in English
  • Ability to hear and respond verbally to acts of disruption and/or safety and behavior concerns
  • Knowledge relating to operation of district‑owned school buses (preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Check vehicle before each run
  • Clean outside of bus
  • Drive bus safely, observing all traffic laws
  • Supervise students entering and exiting the bus
  • Ensure students’ eligibility
  • Sign and complete discipline forms
  • Hold Commercial Driver License before operating a bus with students
  • Report corrections on computer route sheets
  • Suggest and make corrections on route and return sheets to router
  • Adhere to two‑mile limits on buses with eligibility problems
  • Establish and promote a good relationship with students and parents
  • Perform any other duties assigned by managers or director
  • Fill in blanks and provide information needed for special trip sheets
  • Keep daily log of miles driven and charge the miles to the correct program on time cards
  • Provide the Transportation Office with a complete description of assigned route and mileage measurements or any updates needed
  • Assign seats on all runs for regular‑education drivers: weekly, first month of school, and monthly thereafter; communicate in English on radio and in person
  • Other duties as assigned by director or designee

  • District‑owned school buses and related equipment
Mental, Physical, and Environmental Demands

Tools/Equipment Used: Operate school bus; two‑way radio; global positioning system (GPS); safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher.

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling.

Motion: Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching.
