JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for maintaining the airport's infrastructure and ensuring compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations. Duties include performing airfield inspections, maintenance, and repairs; managing wildlife hazards; operating snow and ice removal equipment; issuing NOTAMs; and performing pavement maintenance. This position will also be responsible for general building and equipment maintenance, storm water monitoring, and security checks.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • In accordance with Federal Aviation Regulation 139.337, employees must conduct airport safety self-inspections. This includes documenting airside conditions for the Operations Supervisor and Assistant Airport Manager’s review.
  • Maintain unpaved areas as required by Federal Aviation Regulation 139.307. This includes mowing and grading to maintain the airport safety areas in a manner to facilitate the occasional passage of aircraft and fire equipment.
  • Mow the Instrument Landing System (ILS) critical areas in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulation 139.307.
  • Perform tasks outlined in the Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP) and in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulation 139.337.
  • Perform airfield electrical maintenance which includes repairing or replacing runway and taxiway fixtures and bulbs as needed to maintain compliance with the FAA standards for a runway served by an Instrument Landing System (ILS).
  • Promptly repair airfield signs to maintain compliance with FAA Advisory Circular 150/5345-44J and Federal Aviation Regulation 139.311 is also required.
  • Perform building/fencing maintenance, maintaining hangars, including door, roof and seal replacement, and repair of controlled-access gates.
  • General maintenance of the airport terminal and air traffic control tower, including elevated lighting and window treatments, is also required.
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance to airport equipment including tractors, mowers, skid steer, aircraft tugs, utility task vehicles, and various implements.
  • Identifying and using the appropriate PPE per task required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Perform snow and ice prevention and control. Employee must be able to operate snow and ice prevention/removal equipment during winter storms, in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulation 139.313.
  • Successfully complete specialized training, to operate a plow in specific clearing sequences, load and calibrate the broadcast spreader for solid and liquid deicer application on the runway, taxiways, ramps, roads, and gates is also required.
  • Issue and coordinate notice to airmen (NOTAM) through the FAA NOTAM manager system to alert air traffic control and pilots to irregular conditions.
  • Perform pavement maintenance in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulation 139.30. This includes repairing paved areas, pavement breaks and spalling.
  • Ability to seal cracks by routing and sealing, and repair of paint striping and replacement of reflectors, as needed is required.
  • Enter and update information in the Airport's Work Order Management System.
  • Perform storm water monitoring and inspection, including sampling and inspection reports in compliance with the Airport’s storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP).
  • Perform security runs, checking and securing airport grounds including, drive/walk through gates, hangars, Terminal and FBO buildings, tenant leased spaces, and Airport Tower.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    Knowledge of FAA Guidelines for airport radio advisory communications.
  • Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and hazards of aircraft operations.
