Compensation: $70K – $80K and Discretionary Bonus

OverviewWe are partnered with a mission-driven nonprofit organization that is seeking a Staff Accountant to support its financial operations to ensure the integrity of accounting, reporting, compliance, and contract management functions. This role will work closely with the CFO to maintain accurate financial records, support budgeting and audits, oversee contract administration, and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Ideal candidates should have a formal education in accounting, come from a non-profit background, 501(c)3 or 501(c)4, with full-cycle accounting experience. Responsibilities- Manage day-to-day accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and payment processing.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate financial records and account reconciliations.
- Allocate shared expenses appropriately across programs and entities.
- Develop and maintain accounting procedures and internal controls to support operational efficiency and compliance.
- Coordinate with external accounting partners and service providers as needed.
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial variance analysis.
- Prepare financial reports and supporting materials for leadership and board review.
- Support annual audits and required regulatory filings.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Assist with funds, grants, and restricted revenue accounting.
- Maintain a centralized contract management system to ensure contracts are organized, accessible, and properly tracked.
- Manage contract documentation, renewals, amendments, and key compliance requirements.
- Ensure revenue recognition aligns with contract and grant terms.
- Monitor billing schedules, payment terms, and deliverables to support timely execution and collection.
- Maintain consistency between contract records and financial systems to ensure accurate reporting.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- 2 – 4 years of full-cycle nonprofit accounting experience – At least 1 year with a 501(c)3 or 501(c)4 company.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
- Advanced MS Excel skills and a tech-savvy individual familiar with major ERP software.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Knowledgeable with Revenue Cognition, Restricted Funds, Audits, Financial Reporting, and Regulatory Compliance.
- Personally managed contracts and related financial processes.
- Experience using Net Forum (or a similar AMS / CRM).
- Familiarity with Sage Intacct and ERP software.
- Exposure to grants would be a plus.
