Senior Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join a healthcare organization in Arlington, Virginia in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting specialist who can manage core accounting operations with accuracy, maintain strong financial controls, and support timely reporting in a fast-paced environment. The role requires a hands-on contributor who is comfortable working on site five days each week and bringing broad experience across day-to-day and period-end accounting activities.

Responsibilities:

- Oversee the full accounts payable cycle, ensuring invoices are reviewed, coded, processed, and recorded accurately and on schedule.

- Manage accounts receivable activity, including tracking incoming payments, applying cash, and following up on outstanding balances as needed.

- Prepare and post journal entries to maintain accurate financial records and support compliance with accounting standards.

- Reconcile bank accounts and investigate variances to ensure transactions are properly reflected in the general ledger.

- Support month-end and year-end close processes by completing assigned schedules, resolving discrepancies, and meeting reporting deadlines.

- Maintain general ledger accuracy through routine account analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, and correction of posting issues.

- Use Excel and Accumatica to organize financial data, generate reports, and improve visibility into accounting activity.

- Partner with internal stakeholders to provide dependable accounting support and help sustain efficient day-to-day financial operations. Requirements - Proven experience in a senior-level staff accountant or similar accounting role.

- Strong working knowledge of journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations.

- Hands-on experience managing both accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.

- Demonstrated ability to support month-end and year-end close activities accurately and within deadlines.

- Proficiency in Excel for analysis, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

- Experience using Accumatica or a comparable accounting system.

- Ability to work on site in Arlington, Virginia five days per week.
