Arlington Public Schools (APS) announces openings for a 1.0 Registrar at Dorothy Hamm Middle School. This a 12-Month G-10 position.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs specialized technical and analytical duties required to enroll, withdraw, and transfer students
and to maintain a variety of complex student records at the Middle school level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CLASS (May not include all duties performed; not all
incumbents perform all essential functions delineated.)
Performs a wide variety of registration (enrollment, transfer, withdrawal) and student information
processing tasks and student file maintenance tasks at a high school.
Operates a computer connected to the division's central computer network- enters information on each
student, from registration to withdrawal or graduation, including schedule changes, updated test scores,
updated transcripts, transfer grade histories, and class ranks.
Processes transcripts and distributes to colleges, universities, other institutions, businesses as per
requested by students/graduates.
Processes and maintains automated student schedules; enters master schedule data; enters and prints
individual student schedules; enters all student schedule changes; distributes and processes course
registration forms; enters, maintains and retrieves information from the Student Master File the Student
Scheduling System and Grade Reporting History File, in the APS I.T. network computer.
Prepares graduation lists, commencement programs; orders and prepares diplomas.
Performs other responsible administrative support tasks as required or assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the high school registration/transfer/withdrawal and related record keeping
process.
Thorough knowledge of computer technology utilizations, LAN and database management methods and
procedures.
Good knowledge of APS Information Technology System’s software applications, information deadlines,
college application process deadlines, APS school calendar (e.g. grade reporting dates), and report
processing deadlines.
Ability to accurately maintain complex data files and to prepare reports from files and records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with school administrators, support staff,
students, and parents.
Ability to independently analyze and evaluate grade histories/credits and correctly enter this information
into the appropriate data file, and to produce accurate official transcripts, grade point averages, and class
ranks.
Abilities to organize, execute and follow through on the senior college application process.
Ability to perform work independently and accurately under extreme pressure of deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by courses in the use of microcomputers and
teleprocessing equipment, plus considerable administrative support experience, including some experience
working with the current APS Information Technology programs and equipment or similar systems; or
any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted knowledge,
skill, and ability.
Salary based on the 2026-27 salary schedule.
