Overview

Gilbane is seeking a General Superintendent to independently manage all field operations on a project. The position requires daily presence on the job site and plays a key role on the project team.

Responsibilities
  • Direct day‑to‑day coordination of Gilbane’s trade contractors and their sub‑contractors to ensure high‑quality work meeting the approved schedule
  • Manage the project budget for general conditions and site services
  • Develop, document, and communicate the work plan for field changes
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents to anticipate potential problems
  • Obtain or verify that subcontractors secure all necessary permits
  • Act as primary safety representative and enforce safety compliance with all trades
  • Develop safety strategies and drive safety culture across all personnel
  • Conduct maintenance and planning of workarounds, shutdowns, and tie‑ins
  • Establish credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions, and other partners
  • Resolve jurisdictional disputes with support from senior leadership
  • Lead contractor meetings regularly
  • Maintain daily reports and documentation using software tools
  • Create, manage, and update the project schedule, implementing contingency plans when needed
  • Communicate schedule status and changes to project team and trade contractors
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage jobsite logistics
  • Develop the Quality in Construction plan in partnership with the Operations Excellence team and implement necessary changes
  • Manage Next
    150/Site Services material and crew needs
  • Train direct report Field Engineers and Superintendents on project needs, construction knowledge, and business acumen
  • Assist in development and pre‑construction planning, writing scopes, and participating in buy‑out
  • Administer Time and Materials tracking
  • Lead stretch, flex, daily huddle, and pre‑task plans
  • Engage in the community, growing and fostering local market relationships
  • Collaborate with business development to integrate sales strategies and support performance metrics on your projects
  • Train direct reports on processes, procedures, and daily tasks
  • Manage workload and performance of direct reports, ensuring alignment with company standards
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team members
  • Aid in communicating company and department strategy to direct reports
  • May be required to assist with tasks typically assigned to more junior positions
Experience / Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management.

Qualifications
  • 10–15 years of experience on $30–$100 million commercial/industrial construction projects in a lead superintendent role
  • OSHA 30‑hour certification
  • STS‑C certification
  • First Aid, CPR, AED, Stop the Bleed training
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong technical and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills with ability to adapt to changing needs
  • Ability to participate in sales processes, interviews, and presentations
  • Team‑player
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and industry‑standard construction software tools
