Construction Inspector - Automatic Train Control Systems
We are looking for an experienced Construction Inspector with heavy expertise in automatic train control systems having 20+ years of experience. The successful candidate will undertake a range of projects and perform a number of critical tasks.
Responsibilities- Achieve and maintain full familiarity with CBTC, Signaling, and various integral Signal System's precise technical contract plans, specifications, contractors' schedules and plans, applicable safety regulations, and current shop and working drawings relative to assigned contract duties, and be knowledgeable about the contractors' obligations, plans and schedule.
- Conduct specialized inspections of all elements of work being performed for the project to determine the quality of workmanship and materials used, ensuring they conform to the contract documents, applicable state and federal codes.
- Observe work operations for compliance with applicable safety regulations, be alert for unsafe practices and, where appropriate, request corrections by the contractors' representative on site.
- Prepare daily inspection reports documenting construction progress.
- Monitor program compliance with plans, specifications, and other contract provisions.
- Maintain daily logs of inspection work.
- Review the project work for discrepancies or unauthorized changes.
- Document daily construction activities on electronic and/or hard‑copy reports.
- Record equipment and quantities of materials, as noted in the schedule of values, and change order work under respective Pending Change Order numbers, in daily inspection reports.
- Monitor contractors' actual progress against scheduled progress and record on daily inspection reports.
- Record contractors' job‑site equipment and manpower.
- Conduct Substantial Completion Inspections and Final Acceptance Inspections.
- Prepare punch‑lists or worklists in areas of assigned responsibility before Substantial Completion Inspections.
- Monitor and record correction of construction deficiencies and perform on‑site material testing as required.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or equivalent.
- At least 10 years' experience managing large technical projects as a construction inspector, with 2 years managing signaling systems within the transit rail industry.
- A minimum of seven years demonstrable experience in construction engineering and inspection and testing for large infrastructure projects.
- A minimum of five years of progressive experience in the work elements of the specified project(s).
- Ability to read and comprehend contract documents, including complex plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Ability to understand construction testing disciplines such as welding, non‑destructive testing, concrete and grout sampling and testing, mechanical and electrical, architectural, and structural.
- Certification in general building construction, inspection, or code enforcement from the American Construction Inspector's Association or similar, and completion of OSHA 30‑Hour Training.
