Overview
News Assistant – Arts position at WETA, Arlington, Virginia. The News Assistant program provides recent graduates practical experience in a broadcast news setting, with rotations through the arts unit, control room, studio shifts, and digital news production.
Responsibilities- Log video feeds.
- Research stories and potential interview subjects.
- Assist producers on field shoots.
- Contribute to digital content and online post-production.
- Perform related special projects or other duties as assigned.
- Excellent writing and research skills.
- Demonstrated interest in journalism and/or television production.
- Professional phone manner and solid administrative skills.
- Strong work ethic and effective time management.
- Knowledge of PBS News Hour’s journalistic style.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Prior experience in a broadcast news setting preferred.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
WETA and News Hour Productions are based in Washington, DC. Most positions in Arlington, VA office are onsite or hybrid, depending on the role.
