Construction Project Architect – Bethesda, MD
Position located in the HDR Arlington office, serving as the onsite technical expert in Bethesda, MD. The Construction Project Architect will act as the onsite representative for the project management oversight team, assisting in problem resolution across a range of complexity, and leading Quality Assurance and Control reviews of scheduled milestone packages.
Responsibilities- Represent a multidisciplinary architectural engineering team during construction projects
- Negotiate, interpret documents and collaborate effectively across project stakeholders
- Conduct meetings with clients, contractors and project representatives
- Observe project progress to verify compliance with contract documents
- Coordinate and provide clarification and enforcement of construction documents, including processing contractor requests for information
- Obtain, process, document and maintain records related to claims, change proposals, change orders, RFIs, correspondence, payment applications, contract documents and other project documentation
- Demonstrate knowledge in QA/QC reviews
- Perform additional duties as required
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in field representation during construction, preferably in healthcare projects
- Strong team, leadership, communication and relationship management skills
- Knowledge of Maryland local and state codes, IBC, UFC, FGI, and applicable federal/industry guidelines
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Experience on Federal/DOD projects
- Preference for local candidates
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a closely related field
- Minimum 5 years experience in architectural project delivery
- Registered Architect in the state of Maryland
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project) and Autodesk Revit, and related tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
- Experience preparing and laying out architectural contract documents and specifications
- Strong knowledge of codes and strong planning skills
