Construction Project Architect – Bethesda, MD
We are seeking an experienced Construction Project Architect for the HDR Arlington office. The role is an onsite technical expert in Bethesda, MD working closely with the project management oversight team. The candidate will assist in resolving problems from minor to major scope and complexity and support quality assurance and control reviews of scheduled milestone packages with a focus on constructability, coordination, and value engineering.
Responsibilities- Represent a multidisciplinary architectural engineering team during construction projects
- Negotiate, interpret documents and collaborate as a team player
- Conduct meetings with clients, contractors, and project representatives
- Observe projects to determine progress and compliance with contract documents
- Coordinate and provide clarification and enforcement of construction documents, including processing contractor requests for information
- Obtain, process, document and maintain records such as claims, change proposals, change orders, requests for information, correspondence, payment applications, and contract documents
- Perform QA/QC reviews and demonstrate knowledge while conducting them
- Perform other duties as needed
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in field representation during construction, preferably in healthcare
- Strong team and leadership skills, and communication and relationship management abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of Maryland local and state codes, IBC, UFC, FGI, and other applicable federal/industry guidelines
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Experience in healthcare-related projects and federal/DOD projects
- Preference for local candidates
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a closely related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience
- Registered Architect certification
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Autodesk Revit and related tools
- Demonstrated graphic presentation abilities
- Experience preparing and laying out architectural contract documents and specifications
- Strong knowledge of codes and planning skills
