A professional family in Arlington seeks an accomplished, college-educated Tutor & Governess to lead the academic enrichment of their 6-year-old son within a fully staffed and thoughtfully managed private residence.

This position is ideal for an educator who thrives in a one-on-one setting and enjoys designing a dynamic, hands-on curriculum tailored to a bright and curious child.

The role would include supporting with hands‑on learning activities, creative projects, outings, and low‑pressure opportunities for social confidence building. Familiarity supporting early readers or dyslexia‑friendly learning approaches is helpful, though formal remediation experience is not required

The child works daily with an Orton‑Gillingham tutor for 90 minutes focused on reading, writing, and mathematics. The successful candidate will thoughtfully build and deliver the remainder of the academic day, including science, history, social studies, art, music, and physical education.

Position Overview:
  • Design and implement a creative, multi‑sensory curriculum.
  • Develop experiential, project‑based learning opportunities.
  • Foster intellectual confidence and emotional resilience.
  • Support a curious and occasionally anxious 6‑year‑old with patience and insight.
  • Maintain organized academic materials and structured routines.
  • Collaborate professionally within a staffed household.
  • Prepare the child’s lunch and snacks (flexible if preferred).
  • The position includes 90 minutes of paid preparation time daily, allowing for thoughtful curriculum development and planning.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Holds a college degree (Education or related field strongly preferred).
  • Has professional tutoring or classroom teaching experience.
  • Has experience with children with ADHD, Dyslexia and Auditory Processing Disorder.
  • Montessori elementary experience or background in experiential or project‑based learning environments.
  • Understands differentiated and individualized learning methods.
  • Is warm, intuitive, engaging, and emotionally attuned.
  • Connects naturally with sensitive, curious young learners.
  • Brings creativity, structure, and enthusiasm to lesson design.
  • Is polished, discreet, and collaborative.
  • Driving is required.
  • No travel required.
  • Non‑smoking household.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 3+ solid years of private tutor/governess experience.
  • Excellent references from both current and previous employers.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must speak and be able to communicate well in English.
  • Authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
  • Valid Driver’s license and clean driving record.

They are hoping to find someone who can grow long‑term with their six‑year‑old son — a warm, emotionally attuned educator who prioritizes confidence‑building and curiosity‑driven learning. Joey is bright and thoughtful but can be socially cautious in new situations, and he thrives with predictable routines and gentle encouragement.

This is a unique opportunity for an educator seeking autonomy, creativity, and the ability to significantly influence a child’s educational journey within a stable, well‑managed home environment.

Qualified candidates residing within 30 minutes of Arlington, VA are invited to apply.
