FMI represents food retailers and wholesalers and develops and promotes policies, programs and forums supporting its members, their customers and supplier partners, and other industry stakeholders in the areas of government relations, food and product safety and defense, education, industry collaboration and networking, research, health and wellness, social, environmental and sustainability programs, and communications. By pursuing these activities, FMI provides leadership and advocacy for the food and consumer product industry worldwide as the industry innovates to meet the changing needs of its customers.
PrimaryPurpose
To develop, market, plan, and execute cutting‑edge education programs in a variety of formats in response to member and industry needs. The Director, Education (eLearning) will develop and manage FMI education programs to support the needs of assigned member communities and content areas, implement the organization’s strategic plan, manage program profits and losses, and oversee quantitative and qualitative assessment to ensure continuous improvement and innovation.
The role also serves as overall project manager for education events and activities, is responsible for direct development of content for assigned events, and acts as the e‑learning technology expert overseeing the learning management system and online education activities.
- Lead specific in‑person and/or online events or activities and support larger projects.
- Develop program design, budgeting, marketing and implementation for FMI conferences and other education events.
- Determine event goals, target audience, location, attendance, financial viability, create timelines and budgets, track progress, and serve as project manager for internal teams.
- Manage event staff, collaborate with marketing, finance and logistics departments, and act as overall FMI lead for each event.
- Collaborate with partner organizations on all aspects of event development and implementation as needed.
- Collaborate with marketing to design marketing strategies, produce promotional materials, create cross‑marketing opportunities, and develop alternative advertising methods.
- Develop meeting specifications, coordinate hotel logistics, audio‑visual needs, banquet arrangements, and special events.
- Work with subject matter experts and the Vice President, Education Program Development to develop project budgets, track revenue and expenses, and improve profitability.
- Identify sponsorship opportunities, recruit event sponsors, and develop mutually beneficial partnerships.
- Select and coach speakers, review presentations, and negotiate speaker contracts.
- Stay abreast of trends in conference, education and professional development program design, and seek ways to improve the attendee experience.
- Conduct post‑program attendee evaluation and implement enhancements based on feedback.
- Serve as the Education Department virtual learning technology expert and provide consultation on implementation, trends and best practices.
- Research and recommend e‑learning and education technologies and methodologies to meet the needs of FMI audiences.
- Manage implementation of new technologies, integrate systems and develop the user experience.
- Administer and maintain the learning management system, keeping up to date on new feature releases.
- Develop processes, procedures, training and documentation on e‑learning and event technology tools adopted by FMI.
- Assist other Education Department team members in implementing e‑learning methods in existing and new programs.
- Stay abreast of current and emerging learning technologies and regularly review tools for improvement.
- Other duties and projects as assigned or directed.
- Serve as primary liaison with members, maintain regular telephone, e‑mail, and written contact, respond to member questions, and conduct individualized consulting sessions.
Physical Requirements
- Normal office environment with typical business equipment.
- Travel to off‑site FMI meetings and events throughout the United States; expect 1–4 trips per year, each 2–4 days.
