Adjunct – History
The History Program at Marymount University seeks applicants for adjunct faculty positions. Interviews will occur as open positions become available.
The History Program values innovative approaches to pedagogy and interest in mentoring and supporting students of color, international students, transfer students, and first-generation students. Adjunct faculty will enjoy a supportive and collegial environment, as well as membership in the Washington Research Library Consortium.
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in assigned discipline
- Prepare and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction (in-person, hybrid, or online as assigned)
- Develop syllabi and course materials aligned with departmental standards
- Assess student performance and provide timely feedback
- Maintain regular communication with students and department leadership
- Uphold university academic policies and integrity standards
Required Qualifications
- M.A. or Ph.D. in History or Politics or related fields
- Demonstrated active engagement in pedagogical development and scholarship
- Strong communication and instructional skills
- Commitment to inclusive excellence and student success
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior college-level teaching experience
- Experience with learning management systems and online teaching platforms
- Professional licensure or industry certifications (where applicable)
- Experience working with diverse and first-generation student populations

- Teaching philosophy (2 pages max). Please detail your interest and prior experience with teaching diverse adult learners. Describe three values that guide your teaching practices, focusing on engagement with diverse students and how you will foster an inclusive classroom environment that removes barriers and promotes equitable access and advancement. Include examples from past experiences teaching and/or mentoring students

Compensation /Benefits
Adjuncts receive remuneration on a semester basis, and is typically $1,200 /credit hour.
They may make their own contribution to a 403b retirement plan.
