Thehighschool Director of Counseling Servicesisamulti -facetedleadershippositionwhichrequiresexpertiseinavariety
ofareas:counseling,special education,curriculumandinstruction,child development,studentacademicandsocial
adjustment,testing,scheduling,schoollaw,studentrecordmaintenance,andspecialservicesandprograms. The Director
of Counseling

Servicesmustdemonstrateschoolleadershipwithafocusonthedevelopmentofthewholechild,possessa
visionforhighschoolstudents,andserveasbothleaderandmentortothehigh-school staff. The Director,as required,
mayperformadministrativetasksoutsidetheguidance/counselingfieldattherequestanddirectionofthe

Principal.

• Coordinatestheplanningofcounselingactivitiesanddesignatesresponsibilitiestocounselors.
• Promotesaneffectiveandefficientinstructionalenvironmentatthehighschoollevelbygivingandreceiving informationandassistance,resolving conflicts,determiningstudentplacement,andparticipatingincooperativeand
  collaborative efforts.
• Participatesinthedevelopmentofschoolrules,policies,andprogramsrelatingtostudentconduct,student
  attendance,staff development,student records,etc.,aspartoftheschool'sadministrativeteam.
• Directstheregistrationandorientationofnewstudentsincludingstudentsmovingfromhighschoolstocolleges.
• Arrangesservicesforstudentswithspecialneedsandcoordinatethe
  504programs.
• Coordinatesschoolprogramsaswellasprogramsofferedthroughcountyandcommunityagencies.
• Assistsindevelopmentandadministrationofthe Counseling Department ’sbudget.
• Coordinates Counseling Department ’scalendarwithschooldistrict,community and
  
  Virginia calendars.
• Supervisesandparticipatesinnon-academicactivitiessuchassocialaffairs,publications,student clubs,and
  studentawardceremonies.
• Attendsandparticipatesinschool,district,Virginia,andnationalmeetings,workshopsandconferencesrelatedto
  education and/orcounselingandkeepscurrentwithtrends,methods,and techniques.
• Plans,coordinatesandsupervisesaprogramofcounselingservicesinvolvingawidevarietyofstudentneeds,
  including registration,adjustmenttoschoollife,maintenanceofsatisfactoryscholasticperformance,and placement.
• Supervisesandevaluatesastaffofprofessionalcounselors,the registrar,clerical staff,paraprofessionals,and
  otherstudentservicesstaffasassigned.
• Managesandsupervisescollege/careerpreparationprogramsandtransitionprogramswithintheschool.
• Coordinatesstandardizedtestingandfinalexamprocedures.

• Experienceworkingwithstudents,familiesandstafffromvariousculturalandlinguisticbackgrounds.
• Thoroughknowledgeofguidanceandcounselingtechniques,programs,andpracticesandanabilitytoapplythem
  totheneedsofhighschoolstudents.
• Thoroughknowledgeofspecialeducationlaw,requirements,procedures,and processes.
• Abilitytoadministertheschool-basedguidanceandcounselingservicesrequiredfortheassignedschool.
• Abilitytomeetrequireddeadlines,balancethedemandsofcompetingresponsibilities,tailoranddeliverprograms
  thatmeetthedemandsofdivergentgroups.

• Holdorbeeligibleforanendorsementin School Counselor Pre K-12onalicenseissuedbythe
  
  Virginia State Board  of Education.

• Master'sdegreefromanapprovedcounseloreducationprogramfromaregionallyaccreditedcollegeoruniversity.
  Administrative and/orsupervisoryexperiencepreferred.
• Fiveyearsofsuccessfulexperienceasaclassroomteacherorstudentservicesspecialist;oranyequivalent combinationoftrainingandexperiencethatwouldprovidetheabovenotedknowledge,skills,and abilities.

Fiveyearsofsuccessfulexperienceasaschoolcounselor;bilingualpreferredoranyequivalentcombinationof
trainingandexperiencethatwouldprovidetheabovenotedknowledge,skills,and abilities.

Salary will be based on the FY 2026-27 salary schedule: $123,429 - $216,433
