Job Description

Job Description

The Maintenance Controller is a key member of the Operations Control Center (OCC) responsible for ensuring the airworthiness, reliability, and operational readiness of the fleet during live flight operations. This role provides real-time technical support, oversees irregular maintenance events, and coordinates with flight crews, technicians, dispatchers, and vendors to resolve aircraft discrepancies safely and efficiently.

The Maintenance Controller serves as the primary point of contact for all on-the-line maintenance decisions and is responsible for guiding troubleshooting, authorizing corrective actions, and minimizing operational disruptions while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Real-Time Maintenance Oversight
  • Monitor fleet health and system alerts through OCC tools, maintenance tracking platforms, and aircraft monitoring systems.
  • Provide immediate troubleshooting support to flight crews and line technicians for in-flight and on-ground discrepancies.
  • Evaluate aircraft write-ups, MEL/CDL deferrals, and system failures to determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Direct and coordinate unscheduled maintenance events to minimize operational delays and cancellations.
  • Technical Troubleshooting & Decision-Making
  • Guide technicians through complex troubleshooting procedures using AMM, FIM, IPC, SRM, and engineering guidance.
  • Analyze discrepancies, system behavior, and historical trends to determine root cause and minimize repeat issues.
  • Issue maintenance instructions and corrective actions aligned with aircraft manufacturer and company standards.
  • Coordinate AOG recovery efforts, including parts provisioning, vendor dispatch, and field team mobilization.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure all maintenance actions align with FAA regulations, company policies, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Review and approve MEL deferrals, ensuring required intervals, procedures, and follow-ups are properly executed.
  • Maintain accurate records in maintenance tracking systems and ensure timely closure of logbook entries.
  • Support adherence to Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program (CAMP), AAIP, and reliability program requirements.
  • Operations Control Center Collaboration
  • Work closely with Dispatch, Crew Scheduling, Flight Following, and Operations Leadership to ensure aircraft readiness.
  • Communicate real-time aircraft status, estimated return-to-service times, and operational risks.
  • Participate in daily OCC briefings and coordinate operational priorities with cross-functional teams.
  • Provide proactive updates to manage operational impacts, flight swaps, delays, and reroutes.
  • Vendor, Station & Technician Coordination
  • Coordinate with contract maintenance providers and station technicians for troubleshooting, inspections, and repairs.
  • Ensure vendors have required tooling, parts, and documentation to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Validate completion of work and verify aircraft airworthiness prior to returning to service.
  • Safety, Reliability & Continuous Improvement
  • Support Safety Management System (SMS) initiatives, including hazard identification and safety reporting.
  • Investigate recurring discrepancies and coordinate with engineering or reliability teams to address systemic issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes and reduce operational disruptions.
  • Participate in reliability meetings, audits, and training programs to enhance technical proficiency.
Required Qualifications
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate.
  • 3–5 years of aircraft maintenance experience (line maintenance strongly preferred).
  • Strong technical knowledge of transport-category aircraft systems (737, A320, BBJ, or fleet-specific variants).
  • Experience interpreting technical manuals, wiring diagrams, MEL/CDL procedures, and engineering data.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to make sound decisions under operational pressure.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 OCC environment.
  • Must possess an active Secret (or TS/SCI) security clearance or be eligible to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a Maintenance Controller, Lead Technician, or maintenance leadership role.
  • Experience in Part 121, 135, government, or corporate aviation operations.
  • Familiarity with maintenance tracking systems (Trax, AMOS, Corridor, Ramco, CMP, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to relay technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Experience with AOG field support or remote maintenance coordination.
  • This position does not offer relocation assistance; local candidates are preferred.
Core Competencies
  • Strong situational awareness in dynamic operational environments
  • Clear communication and technical writing skills
  • Time-sensitive decision-making under pressure
  • High attention to detail and regulatory discipline
  • Collaboration across OCC functions
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking
