NV5 is actively recruiting a GIS Field Technician who possesses sound expertise in geospatial technologies and analytic methodologies. The technician must have exceptional planning, critical thinking, analytical and communication skills. The technician must work well in a team environment and be self‑motivated.
Work is performed onsite at Arlington National Cemetary (ANC) in Arlington, VA.
The GIS Field Technician will be responsible for improving the accuracy and reliability of the existing engineering‑related GIS data, digitizing paper records such as floor plans, as‑built drawings and utility location information, and ingesting the data into the existing GIS system. The technician will use ANC GPS equipment to collect GPS readings from locations around the cemetery and utilize these readings to augment data in the GIS.
GPS data collection must be done outdoors on varying terrain and in various weather conditions. The GIS Field Technician will work with ANC’s Engineering team to identify missing or incomplete feature attributes and reference paper and digital information to correct and complete the existing GIS data.

Arlington National Cemetary – Arlington, VA - Candidates must be eligible for federal security clearance (DoD) and proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Work with ANC Engineering team to prioritize field data collection tasking.
- Use GPS equipment to facilitate data collection and post‑processing of data.
- Investigate and verify geographic and land use data by making physical inspections and/or surveys of real property assets.
- Compile thematic data and records into reports.
- Enter delineated map and descriptive information into the GIS through digitizing, key entry or other standard data entry procedures.
- Digitize data and/or utilize GIS/GPS processes to develop spatial data as required for GIS projects.
- Read and understand CAD and PDF files.
- Read and understand engineering documents such as as‑built plans and blueprints.
- Perform data entry into ArcGIS Pro.
- Find and correct location/attribute errors.
- Utilize GIS/GPS technology to develop and produce maps, data, and reports.
- Deliver GIS data containing GPS reading results to ANC.
- Degree requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major work in physical or natural science, geography, engineering, planning, computer science or a related field. - One year of experience working with GIS and CADD data.
- One year of experience working with ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Desktop.
- Experience with GPS equipment and Trimble Catalyst.
- Must have a sound technical understanding of key technologies (GIS, CAD) and enterprise systems.
- Physical ability to walk the cemetery grounds on varying terrain and during varying weather conditions.
- U.S. Citizenship required to comply with government contract.
- Ability to obtain Secret security clearance.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Geography, GIS or related field.
- Two years or more of GIS experience.
- Active Secret Security Clearance.
- Familiarity with Army real property and space management a plus.
