Job Description

MEP Inspector

Join AECOM as a Mechanical and Plumbing Inspector and contribute to the successful delivery of high‑quality construction projects. This role involves confirming compliance with project design and specifications, industry standards for mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection. You will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and functionality of mechanical installations while collaborating with a team of professionals dedicated to excellence.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitor the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical and plumbing systems, confirming proper functionality and performance
  • Inspect mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection, for compliance with contract requirements and industry standards
  • Review contractor shop drawings and submittals to confirm alignment with project specifications
  • Identify, document and report non‑conformances, coordinating with contractors and engineers to implement corrective actions
  • Conduct labor interviews to verify proper worker classification and wage compliance
  • Immediately notify contractors and relevant officials of any potentially life‑threatening safety conditions
  • Maintain detailed inspection reports, logs, and records for quality assurance and compliance tracking
  • Oversee corrective actions for unacceptable construction work and support final inspections, punch lists, and project closeouts
  • Witness and document critical tests, such as pressure tests, leak tests, and system start‑ups
  • Verify the quality of materials, workmanship, and equipment installations to confirm adherence to project specifications
Qualifications
  • HS + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Experience with local codes

    Experience with construction methods and techniques

Preferred Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Construction, Electrical engineering or equivalent certification. Waived for eight (8) years of similar inspection role
  • OSHA 10‑hour training certification
  • Certified Construction Quality Manager for Contractors (CQM‑C) preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software
  • Experience working with federal Project Management Systems
