THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated mid-level Naval Architect to support marine engineering efforts for the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, and commercial shipbuilding efforts in Arlington, VA
.
- Provide technical support and documentation for ship feasibility, concept, preliminary and contract design, integration, stability analysis, hydrodynamic and seakeeping properties.
- Evaluate systems and equipment, develop and analyze requirements, perform studies and documentation relating to hull form, stability, weights, structures, and design.
- Develop system documentation and ship specifications for surface assets and boats, perform structural analysis and design using ISO and class society standards.
- Conduct analyses on stability studies, assist with inclining experiments and weight and stability tests, and oversee design development.
Location:
Primarily onsite at THOR office in Arlington/Shirlington, VA.
Travel:
Up to 10% travel is anticipated.
Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.
Security Clearance Eligibility
Required:
This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred) or be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire.
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in naval architecture.
- Experience with computer applications relating to naval architecture and ship design.
- Experience with corrosion principles of metals for surface assets and boats.
- Familiarity with USN, USCG, IACS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
- Proficient with common productivity software.
- Strong communications skills.
- Ideal experience will have been obtained in U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs.
- Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
- Experience with Rhino
CAD, Ship Constructor, GHS, Max Surf, Ship weight.
