Job Overview
System Safety Engineer, Mid-level. Combine technical skills with big‑picture thinking to impact system safety. Join a team that supports senior‑level DoW and Service personnel with system safety implementation and oversight for DoW system programs. You’ll work on a variety of systems, including weapon, unmanned, missile, surface vessel, support, or laser systems.
Responsibilities- Leverage specialized knowledge of system safety to assist senior-level DoW and Service personnel with system safety implementation and oversight.
- Apply scientific and engineering principles and techniques to identify and assess system safety hazards.
- Develop and evaluate safety deliverables such as System Safety Program Plans, Preliminary Hazard Analyses, Subsystem Hazard Analyses, System Hazard Analyses, Operating and Support Hazard Analyses, Explosive Ordnance Disposal analyses, Safety Assessment Reports, and test report evaluations.
- Analyze data, produce written deliverables, and assist with presentations of results.
- Review client system safety artifacts to verify compliance with requirements, policy, and guidance documents.
- Lead and manage junior staff on safety tasks, providing mentorship to increase their expertise and capabilities.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in system safety, including execution of DoW system safety programs.
- Experience conducting MIL‑STD‑882 safety analyses or implementing system safety programs.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, research, assess, and organize technical data into clear reports and presentations.
- Ability to organize, schedule, and facilitate technical meetings and working groups.
- Secret clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science.
- Experience with NAVSEAINST 8020.6, Weapon System Explosives Safety Review Board (WSESRB), or Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP).
- Experience with digital engineering, machine learning and artificial intelligence, software development, solid‑state electrical circuit design, unmanned systems design, human factors engineering, or fault tree analysis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Master’s degree in Engineering or Science.
- Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Navy Principal for Safety (PFS), U.S. Marine Corps Principal for Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health (PESOH), or Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP).
Salary Range: $86,800.00 to $ (annualized USD). Compensation is determined by location, education, experience, and contract requirements. Full‑time and part‑time employees working at least 20 hours per week are eligible for the benefit program.
